Frequently asked
Which regime should I choose?+
It depends on your deductions. If you claim more than ₹4L in old-regime deductions (80C + HRA + home loan + 80D etc.), the old regime usually wins. If you have few deductions, the new regime — with its higher standard deduction, 87A rebate up to ₹12L, and 25% new slab — is usually better.
What is the 87A rebate?+
A tax rebate that zeros out your tax if taxable income is under ₹12L (new regime) or ₹5L (old regime). The rebate is subtracted before 4% cess.
Are new-regime slabs correct?+
Yes — this uses the Union Budget 2025 slabs: 0-4L (0%), 4-8L (5%), 8-12L (10%), 12-16L (15%), 16-20L (20%), 20-24L (25%), 24L+ (30%). Standard deduction ₹75,000.
Does this include surcharge?+
For most incomes below ₹50L, no surcharge applies. High-income (>₹50L) surcharge is not modelled here — consult a CA.
Is capital gains tax included?+
No. Capital gains (STCG/LTCG on equity, debt, property) follow separate rates. This calculator handles slab income only.
